If you’re looking for a non-traditional course that utilizes your real-world talents outside of a conventional classroom setting, COMM 189 (Peach Blossom Festival Planning) may be for you!
According to past Peach Blossom Festival Committee students, some of the benefits of joining the course are:
- Flexible scheduling; students largely have control of what their hours are
- Three unit upper division elective for all majors
- Meeting new people and strengthening existing friendships
- Staying connected to, and learning more about, the Fresno State campus
- Reconnecting with old elementary schools (and teachers!)
- Sharing a safe space with strong group camaraderie
- Being in a course that can also be used as a resume booster
- Having supportive and helpful professors and peers
- Acquiring new skills and bolstering existing ones
- Contributing to a longstanding, beloved community event
- Developing leadership and organizational skills
- Refining interpersonal skills
- Being assigned to a team centered toward your interests and/or strengths
- Having the busiest time of the course be in the middle and not the end
- Staying fed with all the snacks (office has a mini fridge and microwave as well)

Peach Blossom Committee students are able to:
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Work collaboratively and independently
- Be adaptable to changing goals, deadlines, and tasks
- Assist other teams when necessary
- Remain productive without a rigid schedule (there are still deadlines and a handful of required days and times)
- Communicate well with instructors and peers
- Practice patience under stressful circumstances
- Stay organized in a setting that changes constantly
- Express creativity
- Have fun in an environment that can be chaotic
The course is offered every Spring and the current professors/directors are LaDonna Hayes and Christopher Moss; adding the course would require a permission number from either director.
